“Art from nothing” - a sculpture made from a found washing machine (that was home to many spiders) using pop-riverts and a jigsaw, after I fancied an alternative to using knitting needles and yarn.

“Womb with a view” - This work fed from the inspiration i had when manipulating the inside of the washing machine, for apparently it is likened to what a baby hears the outside world as whilst in the womb.

I explored the use of more robust textiles (in this case woven rugs) of which i decosntructed, dyed and moulded to form wall hangings based on the lining of the womb, and eventually a garment of protection and securtiy.

Final Major Project - Personal Space Boundary.

Edward T Hall had identified four spaces of human interaction - “Public, Social, Personal and Intimate space”. The latter of which is from actually touching someone to 18 inches, and Personal space between that point and 4 feet.

Originally my idea was concieved for a structural garment made up of layers relating to the sizes of the boundaries of space. Overall, it would be 8ft in diameter in order to act as an intimate AND personal space barrier for its wearer.

Here it is displayed as an installation:

Each piece was freeformily handknit and crocheted in varying weights of white and cream yarn. The tags on each depticed the goings-on within my own space whilst I knitted.
