Fit for a queen
Saturday, November 1st, 2008Today I am knitting for Her Majesty The Queen, or ‘Liz’ as im sure her close pals call her. I am planning on writing to Her as part of my dissertation research, and thought perhaps if i knitted a more comfortable version of the Imperial State Crown She might just answer my questions!
Here it is so far, my attempt at figuring out a pattern in all its cashmere-cotton loveliness, minus the trimmings of course which i am going to try and whip up using some red and blue silk yarn:
In other knitting news, it has been a busy week of tutorials and deadlines, things with the collection are coming on slowly but surely. Yesterday I took a little time-out from Fashion and went to Reading to go and knit some vegtables!
The group was held by Felix and she gave a fantastic insight into how your oddments can make beautiful veggies, how to conquer your fear of dpn’s and, interestingly, how knitting can actually be used to explore 3D shapes mathematically (rather like the Hyperbolic Crochet Reef which was at The Southbank last summer).
It was a fabulous evening which featured a knitted pepper, cucumber, potato and pomigranite-come-lipstick-holder! I was feeling inspired to create some sort of mushroom.. and yes, shock, I have also decided to weave it into my dissertation (yet another excuse to do more knitting) and here is my progress so far:
I am attempting to knit as much as i can on the longest set of needles i have, or until the yarn runs out.. Chicken or Egg. I shall keep you all posted of its progression. Thankyou again Felix!
